Do I say the things I mean?
Do I mean the things I say?
Who am I to talk of peace
And then turn the other way?
When I know there’s people struggling
Battling, all around I see them sufferingI see them
For things I never felt
And that in truth have never troubled me
Then how is it fair
For me to say that I care
Then go about my day
When there’s injustice everywhere?
and I know the burden of the world
is not for me to bear
But I’m sure there’s more that I can
Than simply saying a prayer
Cause I want to see my sisters and my brothers unite
I want to know that I was listening
And did what is right
Because your pain is my pain
And when you smile is my gain
We got different names
But it’s your blood in my veins
I picture living like a family
Loving with integrity
Sharing in prosperity
TruthTruth and solidarity
The more I learn the more I see
Nobody’s gonna do the work for meNobody’s gonna do the work for me
LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKHINU BHAVANTU
So may all people everywhere
Be happy and free
And may my thoughts and words and deeds
Be planting the seeds
For the reunification of God’s beautiful creation
For equality and justice
For all people of all nations, I pray
I pray to see the end
Of what we’re here to mend
I know service is my purpose
But I don’t understand
How can there be so much pain??
Has everyone gone insane??
My heart is open but is broken
And is breaking again
I’m here for change
I am but I don’t always know how
Sometimes it’s hard to make a difference
So I’m gonna start now
To be a better man, better friend
Better be doing all I can
To heal my people’s hurt
I’’m gonna take my words and turn them
Into action, actions
Sparking a reaction
Moving with intention
Resolution and compassion
It won’t be easy but it needs to be done
So that our family can live as one
LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKHINU BHAVANTU
It’s so much more than opportunity
It’s my responsibility
To use the gifts I’m given
For helping my community
With love in my heart
And a fist to the sky
I’ll do my part
To stand for I and I
